Balding Teacher Loses Disability Claim

James Campbell, a retired schoolteacher at Denny High school in Stirlingshire, has lost his claim for disability discrimination based on the ground that he’s bald.

Mr Campbell had taken Falkirk Council to an Employment Tribunal claiming that he had suffered harassment from pupils at the school on account of his baldness. He asked the tribunal "How can I stand in front of a class with confidence to get on with my job when I’m getting teased and bullied about baldness?"

However the Tribunal found that although Mr Campbell was taunted because of his baldness, it didn’t mean that it was a disability.

Mr Campbell’s case for constructive and unfair dismissal will be heard at a later date.
